Arjumand Begum was born in April 1593 in Agra, India to Asaf Khan. She was an unrivaled beauty who caught the heart of Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal emperor, at first sight. After her marriage with Shah Jahan, she was entitled with the Persian name Mumtaz Mahal, meaning beloved ornament of the palace. The Taj Mahal in Agra, India still serves as her mausoleum and was constructed by emperor Shah Jahan as a labor of love and a testament to both the majesty of his wife and the eternal nature of true love. 

Mumtaz Indian Restaurant is named after a similar, heartfelt sentiment: an undying and insatiable love of delicious Indian food!
